Applying IxD in CMU, what kind of portfolio do they expect?

Hi guys,

I'm going to apply for an interaction design graduate program. CMU's IxD is my first choice.

I'm working as a web designer for almost 1 year after my Bachelor's degree in communication arts. I assume programs like this may focus more on your portfolio rather than your score.

Anyone here familiar with CMU's IxD? What kind of portfolio do they expect to see? Does it have to be related to interaction design somehow or just things you have done?

Any suggestion would be great!

Sub process within main process?

Does anyone know of any good examples of a progress bar that also shows sub-processes? So let's say it's a typical cart/checkout process (login > shipping > payment > ...), for each of those steps, for example... payment, there could be multiple steps within that (e.g. applying for credit). If anyone has some examples to show, please share.

Documentation techniques in interaction design

I am writing a master thesis in regards to using concept mapping to support interaction desing processes. I would like to know what documentation techniques are mainly used in interaction design and can they be used through all stages, such as research, design, development and production stages?

Maybe you could also recommend articles touching upon this topic.

Interaction South America 2010...a report

Hello all,

"Between 2 and 4 December 2010 occurred in the campus of Positivo University, Curitiba (state capital in southern Brazil), the second Interaction South America. Attended the event over 250 people from various parts of Brazil (...)"

Layers vs. Pop-ups Best Practice?

Hi all,

Does anyone know what the best practices for using layers vs. pop-ups for login/password reset or other account management tasks?

We have a situation where we have implemented layers for these types of functions for a financial site and users with older browsers are not able to access them because the older browsers do not support layers.
