Hi IxDA'ers! Hope you are all doing well on this Wednesday of Wednesdays.
I've got an urgent, FREELANCE IA/ UX LEAD role for an onsite NYC-er from a
cool, midsized agency with a variety of high- visibility clients in the
areas of high-end tech, consumer packaged goods, pharma, etc.
Hi NYC IxDers,
IxDA NYC is proud to launch our Design Studio Series. The first session
of the series will be an intensive design session held in a studio
setting. We supply a real-world design problem, a studio, and the design
mentors; you bring the design chops!
Please join us to:
- Interact with peers and share ideas on best practices, methods, and
strategy in a design studio setting.
- Interact with mentors with 20+ years of design experience, up close
- Be part of a group who are passionately practicing Interaction Design
and who are pushing the field forward.
Membership is free. There are presently 1,356 members, most of whom are in
the NYC area. Job postings are the most frequent email. The other postings
are local area usability, UX, etc. meeting announcements--and the occasional
discussion. Low spam, since it's a moderated group, though without extensive
rules, just a devoted, connected, involved board of directors.
It's time for another NYC IxDA event, hot on the heels of event
announcements in Philly, Waterloo, San Francisco, and Boston. This month in
New York, Alex Wright, an Information Architect at the New York Times, will
talk about the technological limitations we face on the web, and about the
Interaction Design lessons that we can learn from the precursors to the web
to help get around them.
This month's NYC IxDA event will feature Chris Fahey, who will talk about
how style whether we like it or not, is a core aspect of our work. If you'd
like to attend, please send your RSVP to nyc-rsvp at ixda.org.
**Interaction Design Style**
IAs and UX designers are often exceedingly careful to draw a sharp
distinction between style and substance.

Whatever your pathway into the field, whatever your title, as an
interaction designer you find you simply HAVE to take a stand -- with
your clients, your project teams, your colleagues -- for the best
possible experience design, no holds barred!
You read the discussion threads and quibble about what the self-made
gurus are saying.
It's time for another IxDA event in New York! Have you ever had trouble
convincing people to build that elegant design you've iterated, user-tested,
and refined to perfection? This month, Victor Lombardi will talk about how
to convince our companies and clients to build our great designs.
