IDSA's Human Interaction creates the Interaction Design "Archetype"

The above link is to a google doc (odd publishing platform if ya ask me).

The document outlines 3 levels of practice within the role of Interaction Designer as defined by the Human Interaction Community inside the Industrial Design Society of America, IDSA.

DIY Design

I'm wondering what you think about the DIY Design movement and the momentum that it seems to be picking up, particularly in places like Portland. Do you see it a relevant to you and your career/future? Do you even feel like you have a complete understanding of what it means and the entrepreneurial component involved?  Will it really open doors or will it just muddy the waters between GOOD design and junk?

IDSA is devoting a whole conference to it in August... What do you think? Would you go to get the inside scoop from people like John Hoke and John Jay among others?

Connecting 2007

This year is the biannual ICSID/IDSA international congress for
Industrial Design to be chaired by Bill Moggridge in SF. They will be
accepting presentaitons of all kinds including around digital products.
This is the first time in 22 years that the congress is in the US and
the IDSA is trying to make this a very big event.

Check out the site at:

I encourage lots of IxDers to submit to the congress as there is an
entire track for virtual/visceral programming.
