Private Events Platform
I'm looking for a CMS for private events that I can taylor specifically for an organization in the Bay Area that wants to share details of private, free Opera concerts among their constituents. Basically I'd want a way for users to join / get approval from an admin, and then become aware of events, search for events, etc. Nice-to-haves would be the ability for a user to upgrade their profile, so they can host an event, or become at artist, so that producers can contact them to perform in events. This may sound like a tall order, but everything can be kept really light. Inter-member communications / RSVP's / etc. don't have to be managed from the site itself. Performers only need to upload a picture of themselves and provide basic info. That sort of thing. My current approach has been to develop this in Wordpress using a combination of plug-ins, but I'm also open to explore things that out there that already exists or figuring out ways to combine current platforms that already do what they do well. Any ideas?

I haven't seen anything come across my purview for this specifically, but I do know that the very sweet Events Calendar plugin for WordPress is integrated with Gravity Forms to provide a way for users to submit events to a calendar.
Here is a link to a now expired tutorial that will redirect you to an updated post. I'm sharing the link because it explains in detail how it works. Not sure if you had run across this, but I hope it helps.
