Is this local group still active?

I've been wondering whether web professionals can attain a level of camaraderie and inspiration on a local level, as graphic designers find in AIGA... and I'd love to see some more organization in the Los Angeles area. Does anyone else feel the same way?

We've already got some great local event series which incorporate multiple disciplines – like Creative Mornings and de LaB – but perhaps there's something more we can do to unite interactive specialists? Is there anywhere else you've been finding local connections?

Hey Jake,

I'm interested to hear more about your thoughts and suggestions.

Here are a couple of good groups in L.A.:

  • The LA UX Meetup -- -- Events are roughly every-other month and have a large turnout.
  • The LA UX Book Club -- -- There are usually fewer people at these (I guess people are scared by reading, though it's very low pressure).

There are a couple more active groups in the LA area too:

  • LA UPA has an event approximately every 3 months and draws a large crowd (70-80 people minimum).  The next event will be World Usability Day on November 10.  See for more info.
  • There's also a new group forming in Orange County -  Depending on where you live, this could be a good option for you.  They have an upcoming meeting at the end of October.
  • Additionally, if you want to meet UX people, Chris Rider is planning a bar night and hoping to make them regular events:
The UX community in LA is relatively young, but vibrant.  Welcome!  Email me offline if you want more information about any of these, or get in touch via the meetup groups.
