Hi Everybody,

I just wanted to post a quick message to let you all know what's happening with IxDA.org.

We spent a long time this year trying to really understand what challenges we are facing, both technology related and use/feature related. We had some trouble finding consistent and reliable Drupal support earlier in the year, but thankfully we have now connected with Alley Interactive in NYC and will be working with them going forward. They are going to provide Drupal maintenance, development, and system administration. All of these things will lead to a more stable and reliable IxDA.org.

Our biggest technical challenge right now is our hosting. When this site launched in 2010 we moved to a new host which gave us more power than our previous Dreamhost account. However, due to increased traffic and the demands of a site with much more functaionality we've quickly outgrown our current hosting. So, one of the first things that Alley is working on with us is setting up a better long term hosting solution and providing full support for our servers. This means that there won't be the same types of down time we've experienced this year.

Next on our list is a full audit of the Drupal installation so that we can understand what modules we're using, how we're using them, and where there is room for improvement. This will put us in a position to finally start fixing functionality issues and making improvements to things like Discussions and Local.

I'll be posting updates to the site as things happen. Feel free to ask questions, and we might be looking for help with some design soon.

Matt Nish-Lapidus, IxDA Board.
