Job Description
Management Science Associates located in Pittsburgh, PA is seeking a Senior Web Interface Designer, Business Applications. We are looking for a talented, motivated, and creative internet applications designer with a focus on user interface and user experience development for business applications and systems.
This position will work collaboratively with engineers, product managers and executives, providing both thought leadership and clean, considered solutions. The successful candidate will lead the direction to enhance the user front end of our systems for our internal and external clients. The individual will drive the design based on high level business requirements and functional requirements. The applicant will also be expected to collaborate with Production Management and Business Analysts to define the user experience for these applications.
Responsibilities include, but may not be limited to:
  • Designing, prototyping and driving the implementation of screens for portals and rich client interfaces.
  • Performs business analysis, use case analysis, develops software requirements, functional specification and designs the user interface for large, complex new applications and complex enhancements to be made to new and existing MSA software products.
  • Collaborate closely with a multi-disciplinary team of architects, product specialists, and development to help assess product requirements, create UI models, generate user task and interaction flows, document screen designs, and define user-interface interaction details.
  • Develop storyboards and/or prototypes of designs, refining and changing them as needed, based on formal and informal usability tests
  • Create flow charts of task flows and information architecture for the product features
  • Participate in the full lifecycle of product development
  • Work closely with product management and marketing teams to understand the target-audience and market-place for new features
  • Develops and implements UI designs for the company's software products by building interfaces using HTML, CSS, JSP, and XML.
  • Ultimately responsible for making sure that the GUI and/or enhancement are delivered to all of the clients’ satisfaction.
  • Accountable for ongoing management of style guide.
  • Serve as thought leader for visual interaction and design techniques.
  • Conduct heuristic evaluations to ensure portal and applications are consistent with style guide.
  • Participate in usability testing and focus groups with clients.
  • Create logo’s/define the theme & style for a web site.
  • Has a very detailed understanding of the software products they are involved in as well as the industry that the software is designed to support.
  • Has significant influence on the product planning process for determining enhancements and new applications to be developed in future releases.  Will often drive the process for one or more applications.
  • Understands the overall software development process and how their role fits.
Required Skills
  • Requires a four-year degree or equivalent experience
  • Minimum 4 years experience with application analysis or related position
  • Ability to interact directly with clients and internal development staff of varying levels
  • Must have web/graphic design knowledge
  • Experience with GUI design/Web/UI of business applications and systems
  • Demonstrated experience in designing, developing or managing user interface development standards for medium to large scale web applications
  • Excellent fundamental graphic design and web design skills including presentation, layout, composition, color, and readability
  • Experienced in the use of graphical design software
  • Ability to create functional prototypes of web-based applications
  • Familiar with ASP, HTML, JavaScript, Silverlight, and Windows Presentation Foundation
  • Strong organizational and communication skills
  • Understanding of Consumer Packaged Goods (CPG) and Customer Relationship Management (CRM) desired
  • Technical knowledge of Email Newsletter Marketing preferred
  • Online portfolio of design experience a plus
