I play World of Warcraft and with the upcoming release of a new expansion for the game, the current version has undergone some changes. The most noticeable is an occasional shaking of the ground. It's a nifty way of foreshadowing the new expansion (which will crack open the ground in most zones).
This has led me to wonder if and how this type of foreshadowing could be designed into other, non-gaming, kinds of software/web sites that are about to undergo a major design change. I realize that doing an upgrade to implement this kind of feature on software may not be feasible but want to put potential technical issues aside for a moment to think about the other aspects.
Does anyone have examples or ideas?
