Hello Everyone,

I am a second year masters student in computer science specializing in Human Computer Interaction. I want to do a project which is a requirement for my masters degree. I am looking at something interesting which can be done by one person in 3 - 4 months spending approximately 6 - 8 hours/week. I am interested in usability, interaction design, doing information architecture for websites and improving the overall user experience. I want to get a a job as a UX/IA Designer after completing my masters. I want to work on something that is hot in the UX/IA/IXD field right now which I can showcase to potential employers that would help me get a job once I graduate.

Please help me out.

Thanks !

I did a similar project back when I was in grad school - volunteering to do a short term update to a local museum.  If you do, make sure you maximize the benefits you can put on your resume later:

- Use the latest and greatest technology
- Have a rationale ready for your choices (both technology and design)
- Demonstrate some level of project management (planning, process, documentation)
- Most importantly, the killer design.

They say a picture is worth 1000 words, and a site is worth 1000 pictures.  But more importantly, it will provide a talking point to show your expertise when it really counts - during the interview.
