type: discussion status: 1 Howdy: Might we consider a separate list for job postings? This one is becoming too laborious to sift through to find good chewy discussions...

Hi,

As I just posted earlier today (http://www.ixda.org/node/26206), there is a separate section of the site for job postings, the Job Board: http://www.ixda.org/jobs

We try to make sure people post jobs there instead of the discussions, but no everybody complies.  We are starting more strict moderation to try and address this.

oh yes, please do that!
i'm drowning in job postings too, and am in the process of unsubscribing, just because of that.

A job board could be a good way to help fund the IXDA, btw.
Example: http://www.coroflot.com/public/login_postjob.asp

In my inbox, it's impossible to separate out the job listings from the discussion. Is there a way to indicate (either in the subject line or one of the header fields) which list the message is directed to?

This is something I'm working on.  I'm hoping to have the email templates figured out very soon and start fixing things like this.

Why not have a separate jobs email list? I prefer that over visiting a site, honestly--and that way, people can apply their own filters to find the jobs they want.

I realize that the site allows filtered search, but emails are far more convenient for a lot of people. Maybe have both?

Thanks for your hard work. One suggestion for future implementations: place the city in the subject line.

A separate list isn't really necessary - people should just use the Job Board that's already there instead of posting jobs in discussions. This is how the current site is supposed to work but I guess many will be publishing jobs as they used to - i.e. emailing them to the discussion email address.

I agree that they should be kept separate.  When I'm ready to dive back into the job market I'll go ahead and visit the Job Board or subscribe to that list separately.  I realize that won't stop people from posting jobs in the discussion board completely but it'll certainly minimize the amount.  How about some simple copy and a link to the Job Board for recruiters or would-be job posters on each new thread page?

Do you have a link to the job board? I would rather have posted it there, but had difficulty navigating the web site.

All (properly posted) job listings come from the mailing list "job.ixda.org" - you can filter on that (as I have been doing successfully in Gmail).

Ah, but of course. Thanks for the tip, Jonathan!

Jonathan-

There's a FLOOD of job postings that don't come from the job.ixda.org hoo-ha. Or, if they do, the aforementioned isn't in the Subject line.

Why are a bunch of UX "experts" arguing about this???

Could we just PLEASE change the Subject line bracket-tag to:

[IxDA-Jobs]

If there's not going to be a separate list??

Thx! n

Hi,

Right now there is the job board on the site, and you can also receive those as emails.

We will add the unique subject/header for jobs idea to the backlog, it's a good idea.

For those not interested in jobs, you can unsubscribe from Job emails in your Notification settings.

Pople posting jobs should use the job board, but not everybody is complying with that.. we're working on it.

I think that's all we need to say on this topic, so let's move on and talk about IxD... If you want to continue talking about this please use Get Satisfaction, it's better suited for talking about site improvements than clogging up the discussions list.

Thanks!

We are talking about IxD :-)
@jared: years ago there was a requirement on this list to add [job] to the subject field. I can't recall when that was dropped/went out of vogue.
Anyway, here's the [job] topic over at GetSatisfaction:http://getsatisfaction.com/ixda/topics/append_job_label_for_all_job_posting_subject_title
