To start, I wanted to say I'm thankful for all of the hard work volunteers have contributed to get us to this point. I mostly lurk, but I get a lot of value and really enjoy the discussions here; I would be happy to contribute back.

I have a few suggestions I think would help make contributing easier (insert grain of salt here):

  • create a separate discussion group or list for volunteers and other interested folk to talk about anything related to the running of the IXDA site (ala Metafilter's metatalk[1]).

  • keep a publicly available bug list / feature list that members can contribute to and read, so it's easier to see what needs to get done.

  • grant a few trusted people with the ability to commit changes to the web site, and then make its code available for others (like me) interested in fixing bugs or implementing new features.

I'm sure there are others like myself who would be happy to help. Providing a place to track, fix, and talk about what needs to be done would be a great way to encourage more contributions.

Hi Neil.

We actually have all those things, and if you'd like to volunteer to help out with the site we can definitely point you in the right direction.

- We use Basecamp for our volunteers discussions and coordination.

- The bug list is at tracker.ixda.org for your perusal

- There are a few people who are working on the code for the site already, but we're always happy to have more volunteers in this area.

If you're interested in getting involved please let me know, you can contact me off-list.  Thanks!
