Godigi or other mobile usability testing solutions
Does anyone have any experience with Godigi? We received a solicitation email from them.
http://www.godigi.com/
It looks like they sell a camera for doing usability tests on mobile
devices -- has anyone used it? Or any other products or services from
them?
Also - has anyone used any other solutions for testing mobile devices?
In our last round of testing, observers got very frustrated because they couldn't see the screen of the iPhone. An iPhone screen sharing solution would be
good but in the future we will need to test on other platforms like the
Droid and Blackberry as well.
Thanks,
Hilary

I have use the Noldus Mobile device camera. It will work on any non-flip phone (just candybar/ phones as they used to call them--which now includes iPhone, Androids, etc). As you can tell from the picture, it severely effects the weight and handling of the phone. But other than that, you and all in the back observation room get to see what the user sees, along with all of their finger taps too. If your user can get used to it (takes maybe 5 minutes), you are gold. http://www.noldus.com/human-behavior-research/accessories/mobile-device-camera-mdc

This looks vaguely interesting. The gotchas to look out for are:
1) Is it a wireless camera? (Expect MAJOR problems if it is)
2) Figure out the value of facial expressions and body language. If you feel this is important, you'll need a coordinated second (or even third) camera.
3) Figure out whether the artificial interaction of a mounted device is important for your service. It might not be if:
a) you have any accelerometer gestures
b) your users might be generating language, and hence gesturing with the device
c) you use any device-real world interaction, like camera, NFC, etc.
d) you might need to test in context
We've built our own that addresses all of the above, using a sled, multiple cameras, and a quad-processor to capture video to disk. I don't have experience using somebody else's setup.
