Transition support for new IxDA.org
Hi folks,
Thanks again for everybody's patience and understanding as we work out the kinks and communicate some of the features of the new Discussion forum & mailing list. This thread is a place to ask questions & get answers!
One question at the top of many people's lists is: How do I get digest delivery?
Answer: To manage your subscriptions, visit your "My Profile" page (either click on your name in the header bar, or go to Members > My Profile page). Under the "Notifications" tab/link, you'll see all your subscriptions listed. (If you don't have any, go to "Add subscription" to add a content type.) To edit the delivery options of a subscription, click "edit" next to the one you want to change. (Alternately, you can do bulk operations on your subscriptions by using the checkboxes at the start of each row & using the "Update options drop-down menu".) To adjust the email delivery timeframe, change the "Send interval" field to yourdesired time period. Selecting "Daily" will equal the previous digest option.
You'll see when you go to Add Subscriptions, or as you surf around the site, there are a wide variety of content types that you can receive via email. You can subscribe to individual threads (which is very handy if you DON'T want delivery of all messages but you want to engage in a post you started or care about); content types within local groups; Job posts; etc etc. One thing to know as you review the "Content types" options is that Drupal calls every bit of content a "node", so "Node type"="Coroflot job" with "Send inteval"="Immediately" means every Coroflot job entry will be sent via email as soon as received by IxDA.org.
Cheers,
Liz

Hiya folks,
Another question that's come up: Where is the RSS feed for the main Discussion?
Answer: RSS feed links are provided for many pages/content types, and access to RSS feeds is provided through the RSS icon labeled "Get the feed" located at the bottom of supported pages. The main Discussion feed is here: http://www.ixda.org/discussion — scroll to the bottom & click the little RSS icon. The resulting Bloglines page is here: http://www.ixda.org/discussion/rss.xml

Actually, daily DOES NOT equal the previous digest version. I clicked 'daily' yesterday and woke up this morning to 27 separate emails.
A very disappointing development.
Gabby, Sorry! The word on the street is that the "Daily" send interval is misbehaving. Please stick with us as we work out the bugs!

Ya this is killing me too

The site looks great! Think I configured my mailing list frequency twice - once during the first step of profile creation, then again at Notifications > Subscriptions. Works fine for me ;-)
Thanks Liz!
Looks good. Would love to use my openID with this site. Any thought to adding that?
Yes, we have every intention of supporting openID; just a question of when/how to pursue its implementation. If you have any expertise in this area, please consider volunteering for the infrastructure team: http://www.ixda.org/about/participate/volunteer.

Another bug (sorry if this is the wrong place to post it): the ‘Recent Posts’ lists on my profile page does not seem to get updated. :-(
Inevitable bugs aside, you (i.e. everybody involved) have been doing a fantastic job with the relaunch! Thanks. :-)
Got it logged, thanks for sharing.
My account transition from old site to new has been smooth. Enjoying it v. much! Thanks
Do events for local chapters support RSVP? This is a major consideration for us as capacity is usually limited at our meetings.
Yes, Christian, local chapter events support RSVP. Local leaders, who are administrators of their local group section of the site:
Beyond this core functionality, we've got feature requests on the list to export the attendee list, as well as make the RSVP behavior a little more "Ajax-y" vs. using the more out-of-the-box Drupal form submission style.

Thanks Elizabeth, but I still can't figure out how to get the digest. The Digest version in the previous system would deliver roughly 1-3 emails a day, each of which was a threaded conversation on a particular topic, and the subject line indicated the title and author of the conversation. Does that function exist in the new system?
Here are my current settings:
Content typeDiscussionMailDailyactiveI am just getting a huge list (maybe 50 lines) of URLs. The emails all have the same subject line - "IxDA Subscription update for Cris".
Cheers,
Cris
Hi Cris,
Um, yeah, that would be a hideous bug I think! I forwarded your email
to Greg at GVS. We're working on a design improvement to the Daily
setting that delivers the contents in readable fashion in the email,
but for now the Daily email just operates via links to the forum. But
the emails having that subject line is curious, unless Drupal is
defaulting to letting you know that you updated your subscription
setting (did you set/adjust it 50 times, though?). You should've had
Discussion content delivered instead.
Cheers, Liz

I dont know if this is unique to me, but there are many mails that I receive that have nothing more than this (snipping off your mail to create an example). i.e. I see no content in the mail, but if I click the link next to "View original post", I see the post and the subsequent comments.
But if we never received a password, we can't log in and change our preferences!
(Would I even find that email in the dozens of messages now flooding my mailbox?)
