I've been buried in the mobile world for the past year and before that was buried in business reporting and sql editors.

I'm interested in the Web 2.0 but Web 2.0 seems to be a rather vague description of many different types of technologies and apps. I know some pieces, like Ajax, but I'd like to learn more and get a quick overview of what's going on in the Web 2.0 space.

Where's a good place to start learning about Web 2.0?

Hi Wendy,

Joshua Porter manages a Squidoo.com lens @
http://www.squidoo.com/introtoweb20/

Hi blog barkado.com is also very good.

But what do you want to learn?

A source to educate oneself about Web 2.0 is going to be the IxDA-organized
IxD Symposium @ the IA Summit (pre-conference):
Luke Wroblewski, Frank Ramirez and myself are going to be giving a panel
presentation on the topic of the next web.

For my own part I've been describing Web 2.0 to be a description of a time
period where web-browser based solutions combine in some way the following
concepts:
Richer, social, open, and IN THE BROWSER. Some might add pervasive to this
list, but then it really isn't "Web" 2.0 anymore. ;)

I'm not sure what you want to know about Web 2.0.
A common thing that happens is that many equate Web 2.0 with Ajax. Ajax is a
technology that does richness and richness often enables the other pieces.
But so could Flash!

Hi Wendy

There's been a good discussion recently of the business case for Web 2.0 at:
http://www.e-consultancy.com/forum/103296-web-2-0-what-s-the-business-case.h
tml

Not sure if this angle was your interest but if so check it out.

Mike

David already pointed out Josh Porter's stuff. (He's also writing a book
for O'Reilly on the topic.)

I wrote an article a while back:

Web 2.0: The Power Behind the Hype
Sep 07, 2005
Jared M. Spool challenges the myth of Web 2.0, uncovering APIs, RSS,
Folksonomies, and Social Networking, which suddenly give application
developers a new way to approach hard problems with surprisingly effective
results.

Hope this helps,

Enjoy.

Wendy and Gang, Joshua Porter just released a deck of slides from a
presentation he delivered to Boston's ACM Chapter called Web 2.0 -
Leveraging the network.

Don't forget about Sippey's (humorous) web 2.0 checklist, which was also written on a Web 2.0 app:
