Role Call: Bay Area Design Agencies

I am attempting to track down a comprehensive list of design
consultancies, most specifically those which offer both interaction
design and visual design services, within the Bay Area. I know new
ones have emerged, some have thrived, while more than a few have
fallen by the wayside over the last few years.

Does anyone know of a up-to-date directory of vendors? If not, I made
a quick first pass of agencies off the top of my head below. Many
vary their degree of focus on Ixd, IA, UX, visual design and
development. I imagine there are a good chunk of advertising agencies
I am not as familiar with, but few seem to actually list Ixd as a
service. Actually, I'm most curious about any new small shops (3-5
people) as those tend to be most difficult to track down online.

Cheers,
Chad

Hi Chad,

Your list below looks like a good start; I'd like to add my firm, UEVision
(www.uevision.com).
We're based in San Francisco, are a small shop, and went live in May of this
year.

We specialize in UI/UX design, visual design, and usability testing services
for web-based applications and web software.

Best,

Hi Chad -

Our company fits your bill. Punchcut is an interface design company
specializing in user-centered design for mobile, web and software. Our
services include user interface strategy (user research and analysis,
brand and content strategy), user interface design (interaction,
information, graphical user interface and rich media design), and user
interface development (mobile, front-end web and rich media
development and integration consulting). The company was started in
2002 by three partners who met while working at Razorfish (now Avenue
A | Razorfish). We number 20 employees in our San Francisco office
with a network of partners and colleagues in satellite locations in
North America, Europe and Asia.

This list (not just Bay Area) would be a good addition to the resources
section of the IxDA website. I couldn't find it on the website.
Sorrrieee if I missed it.

Hi Chad,

I've been curious about this very same thing myself recently.

Here's an addition to your list:

XPLANE | The Visual Thinking Company

XPLANE is an information design firm that develops visual maps and
stories to make complex business issues easier to understand. Through
consulting, training, and creative services, XPLANE helps companies
reduce complexity and increase the clarity and effectiveness of their
communications.

Xi -- The XPLANE incubator
Xi is the Bay area division of XPLANE that is specifically designed to
serve
startups and small-to-midsized technology companies. Xi has a special
focus on solving complex sales and marketing communication challenges
through user-centered design and analysis.
