Has anyone read any of these? They sound interesting but the hefty
price tags have kept me from buying them without a recommendation:

User Interface Design for Electronic Appliances by Konrad Baumann
Interaction Design for Complex Problem Solving: Getting the Work Right
by Barbara Mirel
Information Appliances and Beyond by Eric Bergman

The latter book isn't that bad but it is a few years old now. It's been some while now since I've read it and I'm not sure how well it holds up. Some portion of the book tries to be practical and center around design trade-offs between "post-pc" forms. That may seem oddly quaint in the here and now.

Mirel's "Interaction Design for Complex Problem Solving" has been
reviewed in the latest issue of the SIGCHI magazine, <interactions>.
The reviewer is quite positive about the book!
