Hello all -

I just got approval to participate in an offsite seminar or two this
year. Do you have any recommendations for conferences or seminars
focused on general IxD, IA or usability? By general, I mean not overly
technical or graphic design-focused. I'm a content producer and have
recently been submerged in peripheral IA and usability roles and would
like to learn more. Any advice is appreciated. US only, please.

Thanks in advance!
Sarah

Sarah, for IA and UX stuff ther eis the IA Summit but it is very soon. It is
the only conference that will probably speak to your IA needs as a content
producer and also include some stuff about general IA and usability.
http://iasummit.org

In April there is CHI2005.org. It is sponsored by the SIGCHI of the ACM. It
centers around research of Human and computer interaction. Then in June is
the Usability professional association's conference http://upassoc.org/.

After that if you want to be thinking longer term there is DUX2005. As far
as I know only dates have been announced and no program or specifics yet.
Designing User Experiences is a great showcase of case studies by User
Experience profressionals that happens every two years (well it happened 2
years ago w/ a plan to repeat it again). You can go to the AIGA-ED site to
see the results from 2 years ago.

Don't worry that its part of AIGA, its not a graphic design thing.

Then there are the UIE roadshows which are going around about user research.
Uie.com is a good place to start. Nielsen Norman Group usually do a road
show around the world each year at some point nngroup.com and I know that
Louis Rosenfeld and Steve Krug are doing a show of IA and Usability
together. I think there is info at Lou's site http://louisrosenfeld.com/

I'm sure some other people can add more.

Good luck!

Ps. I'll be at iasummit http://synapticburn.com/comments.php?id=42_0_1_0_C
And so will a bunch of other IxDG list folks.
