I am reading a book about User Experience and came across the
following in the Research Plan chapter:

"The competitors' design is a lot less polished and much more
chaotic, yet they get twice as much traffic with a similar amount of
advertising."

How can you find such information about the competitor's traffic?

Is such information available for everyone?

You can use resources like Alexa to find out traffic information of
various sites. It's not 100% accurate, but can serve as an estimate
of how your competition is doing.

Alexa.com provides free stats. I don't know how reliable they are
(anyone have a view?).

We%u2019ve used Nielsen Net Ratings and comScore for competitive site
traffic data. Nielsen is the same company that has measured TV
audiences for years.
