I'm looking for examples of designers who are founders of online
companies like guys in 37 Signals, Wufoo or Slideshare?
Is it an advantage? How does it feel to be one? (No ROI reports, no
institutionalization! A seat in the board!) :)
PS: Design consultants are not counted.

My company (marketpublique.com) is founded by three designers. Advantages:
we get the web, we get design, and we can handle some of the development &
technical stuff ourselves. Disadvantages: all the business stuff is
REALLY aggravating scutwork, and the three of us became designers to avoid
that kind of work. Since there's no "bness guy", all three of us have to do
the boring stuff as best we can.
Recommendation: three founders is a really great number; small enough to be
nimble, unstable enough to prevent deadlocks. If we run into trouble there's
always a tie-breaking vote to help us make a decision and move on.
