Detailed Description

As a member of the User Experience team, you will develop and apply
software design/usability processes in the investigation of technical
problems. May develop user profiles, with emphasis on human error
control, display issues, visual interaction, physical manipulation
and task and objective analyses. Provide product usability,
evaluation and support to product development teams, including the
analysis and investigation of applications/systems including tactile
methods, visual graphics, web, multimedia, voice response and
conversational user interaction. May assist in developing design
concept and implementation, providing input on user design
considerations. May produce specifications describing user needs and
internal structures for product in development.

Preferred Skills

Duties and tasks are varied and complex utilizing independent
judgment. Fully competent in own area of expertise. May have project
lead role and or supervise lower level personnel.

BS or MS degree or equivalent experience relevant to functional area.
Typically four years of software engineering or related experience
needed.
Demonstrate a working knowledge and practical application of all core
topics of human factors engineering profession (displays, controls,
human information processing, systems engineering) and/or human
computer interaction.
Demonstrate a working knowledge and practical application of
laboratory & field study techniques for human subjects, experimental
design and statistics.
Demonstrate an independent practice of at least 3 empirical and
analytic methods and techniques of usability engineering.
Possess working knowledge of the User Centered Design process (UCD)
Possess technical and business knowledge of product/line and
immediate competition
Conduct usability engineering program for a specific product/line,
including usability goals and objectives, customer requirements
gathering, design specifications, heuristic evaluations, usability
testing, competitive testing and evaluation
Evangelize user-centered design process within product/line
Conduct specific detailed analyses and tests by collecting,
analyzing, and interpreting subjective and objective system and human
performance data; compare data with competitive and previous products;
and develop recommendations and solutions capable of implementation.
Coordinate and track implementation of usability recommendations
among designers and developers
Employ valid statistical methods to conduct empirical data collection
& analyses
Communicate clearly plans, methods, results and recommendations in
written and oral presentations to developers

Possess B.A or B.S. degree as required while M.A., M.S. or Ph.D.
degree in HCI, Psychology, CS, or Design is preferred
Possess 4-8 yrs of professional experience in product development
user experience as an individual contributor in Usability within the
computer/software industry
Maintain Certified Professional Ergonomist (CPE) or Associate
Ergonomics Professional (AEP) certification objectives, customer

Department Description

The Business Intelligence Usability and User Interface Design team drives the user centered design process for Oracle Business Intelligence, the industry's most comprehensive offering designed to address the entire spectrum of analytical activities including query, reporting, analysis, data integration and management, desktop integration, and business intelligence (BI) application development. We are a diverse team of user experience professionals skilled in all aspects of user centered design including user research, usability evaluations, interaction design and prototyping.

A senior usability engineer conducts usability evaluations, focus groups, customer research, competitive analysis, and survey research for applications products. They articulate a usability plan for one or more application product domains.
Specific job responsibilities include: developing test plans and materials, administering usability evaluations or needs gathering methods; performing data analysis and interpretation; running video equipment and data logging systems; planning and conducting contextual research with other team members; reporting and presenting to product teams. This person also mentors junior staff members in usability evaluations and customer research, interfaces with lab administrative staff to run and maintain Usability Labs, and helps maintain department web sites. As a member of the User Experience team, you will develop and apply software design/usability processes in the investigation of technical problems. Strong communication and interpersonal skills honed through years of working in multidisciplinary, collaborative teams
Experience applying customer centered design methods to product development
Domain knowledge of business intelligence, data warehousing, query and analysis or reporting a plus.
