Hello,

I am trying to collect examples of experimental and creative video
scenarios or user research studies (or videos that mix both). Thanks
so much!

Examples I already have:

Green House CPH - A video scenario that communicates an energy
management concept in the form of a mock user research study
(http://vimeo.com/3423797)

Little Brinkland by Anab Jain- A documentary about a fictional town
in the near future, design to communicate concepts about future
workspaces (http://www.littlebrinkland.com/finalproposals.htm)

MeetUp by Participle - A video mixing user research, experience
prototyping and storytelling to communicate a new service for elderly

Adam,

We've been using video a lot to communicate concepts, prototypes and
some testing with the Drupal community (and other interested
participants) on the D7UX.org project. There are a bunch of videos
here: www.YouTube.com/group/drupal7ux
(that URL is from memory as I'm on my phone so hopefully correct!)

Is that the kind of thing you're after?

There are a number of examples from the pilot year of the interaction
design course at CIID

What I am seeking would be something more like Mozilla Lab's Aurora
concept video, which does a nice job of incorporating story telling
(http://www.vimeo.com/1347289).

But I am actually seeking videos that take an even more creative and
experimental approach. For example, what if the stories told in the
Aurora video were actually stories told by user research
participants?

Hi Adam,

I think stuff like Aurora and the stuff I did recently (and CIID did
in their program) and the stuff that the Cooper Drawing Board does
regularly now are solidly based in user research.

In the example we did at SCAD (http://iact.in/) much of the script
contains exact quotes taken from the research. The 3 characters
represented are the 3 personas we came up was part of our research.

I think I need more about what you are lookin' for and what you mean
as "experimental"

Thanks. The Cooper Drawing Board was a nice discovery.

I mean 'experimental' more in terms of film making and
storytelling.

Philips Design used to publish on their website a lot of videos and
reports of their user research, design concepts and prototypes. You
might wanna go check it out and see if they still have these things
up for the public.

Is this what you're looking for? (I'm not really clear. Maybe you
could say why this is something you're seeking?)

Thanks, all! The Microsoft videos are more or less what I am looking
for examples of.

But I would argue that the Office Lab videos are too much about the
infterface/technology and not about how it actually makes people more
productive. Aurora on the other hand does a good job of telling a
story about people.

I am just trying to get a sense of the different approaches people
take to creating video scenarios & video prototypes for emerging
technologies or new design concepts.

Thanks again!

Here's an old one but an absolute goodie- Sun Microsystem's/ Bruce
Tognazzini's "StarFire: A Vision of Future Computing", made in
1992 and described a day in the life of a knowledge worker in the
(then near) future year 2004.

You can download the movie as well as details on how it was made at:
