Can anyone give examples of websites where users are able to enter
information prior to log-in or becoming a member of the site? Users
would then be prompted to do so when moving to another section of the
site in order to have their data saved. Does anyone know if there is
the capability to show similar prompting when a user types in another
web address or goes to closeout the browser window. We are trying to
address a business requirement.

Any pointers, examples, etc. would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Vicki

There are many examples where users can create a wish list without
signing up. Only when they want to access that wish list form another
computer, they will have to create a personal account.

e.g.: http://www.deverborgenstad.nl/kooktocht (in Dutch)
Hint: look for the button [Toevoegen aan Favorieten]

It's not necessary to prompt for saving data if someone is just
browsing to a different section or website. Give users a anonymous
account, and store the account id in a cookie.

Prompting when a user is about to close your webpage, is possible,
but not desirable. You would interrupt a user's action.
