Interaction Designers,

how do you introduce the work you do when you have a social introduction?

Curious regards,

had to do this two days ago - to a group of people around the age of my parents.. which made me think a little about it afterward.

I usually follow up "what's an interaction designer?" with something like:

"I design how digital products and humans interact with each other"

(i only really do digital stuff atm so this works for me)

this time I used the 'digital watch' story that Moggridge uses at the start of his book - mainly because the person asking me was wearing a digital watch and started talking about programming vcr's..

I wonder what the world would be like today if beta was the direction we
went.

This is indeed a nice thread..

I help spread the smile when dealing with products and the products
could range from a simple website to physical products to entire
systems.

this is one of the best threads at IxDA so far! it echoes the very
motivation in each one of us to log on to this group and spend a few minutes
every day on it, doesn't it? and very rightly put in the subject,
professional life is nothing but an elevator pitch where in just a few
minutes you need to communicate something that you are so passionate about
and have spent years with (and plan to spend much more further)...

btw, do we keep a record of the number of posts on a thread? is 38 is a sort
of record so far?

Or... as a UI text specialist, "I figure out what the buttons (and menu commands, tooltips, etc.) in computer programs (and websites) should say, relative to what other people say they should do, and I advise on where and how still other people say they should appear." Or something like that.

should say and do
