Web 2.0 is a frequent focus of discussion with our clients. I'm
considering attending the Web2.0 Expo in April 08.

My goals are to
Increase my understanding tools/ technologies related Web 2.0
Gain some new insights and inspiration for business possibilities
Interact with other user experience professionals dealing with Web 2.0
issues and challenges

Would appreciate feedback from people who attended Expo in past - and/or
suggestions for alternative events I should consider.

Thanks in advance!

Regards
Susan

Susan,

I attended last year's Web 2.0 Expo. Some personal impressions (your mileage
will, of course, vary):

Positive:
- Wide variety of content. I often found myself torn between multiple
sessions that sounded interesting.
- Content was mostly on topic (i.e. somehow relevant to the broadly defined
Web 2.0 space).
- Strong Design and UX track - Jeremy Keith on standards-based web design,
Luke Wroblewski on visual design, Raph Koster on lessons from game design,
etc.

Negative:

- A number of talks were presented by vendors who seemed more interested in
pitching their product than anything else.
- Most of the panels were write-offs. Lots of rambling and reminiscing by
panel members. Not enough moderator direction.
- Networking was underwhelming. Little opportunity to interact with fellow
UX professionals due to the size of the conference (over 2,000 attendees)
and diversity of attendees.

Hope this helps,

Dmitry
