I'm in SF this week at the IDSA/ICSID world design congress called
"Connecting 07". It's the premiere conference that happens every 2 years for
the industrial design community. It's big and its lavish with 150 speakers
from around the world.
Before going party hoppin' tonight on the studio tour, I went to the SF IxDA
event called INTERSECTION: where interaction design and industrial design
4 leaders of interaction design at 3 agencies and 1 internal group made 4
amazing and very different presentations (20min. each). Each one expressed
different processes, different solution sets, different relationships with
industrial designers, etc. Each though expressed to the audience what it
takes to not only work with industrial designers across these very different
projects, but also what is really the new role for interaction designers who
are working on products and in one case eco-systems.
Dani Malik and the rest of the organizing team for the SF Local chapter with
the support of the UX team at C|Net had them pouring out of the doors, and
sitting on the floors, totally engaged in these presentations.
With support like this from corporate sponsors like C|Net (what an amazing
spread of food and drink) and with available content providers from our
guests representing IDEO, Frog, Cooper and Motorola it is clear that the SF
UX community has a new and vibrant community which will bring tremendous
value to all who decide to participate, engage, and contribute.
It was my pleasure to visit with you all while I was in town and I'm very
grateful that you were able to make this event coincide with the IDSA
