I'm just starting the hci masters program at Carnegie Mellon.

Are there opportunities to get together with veteran interaction designers
and their ilk around Pittsburg?

Frankly, I've never lived in a city before and at 22 I'm finding this town
more than a little intimidating -- but the other students seem very young
somehow! Well, just an impression.

Hello Michelle,

Welcome to the list, and welcome to Pittsburgh. You will find that
there are a few list members in the Pittsburgh area, and several CMU
alumni on the list. You can count me in both camps. ;)

In fact, we have a local IxDA chapter, and I'm sure Michele Marut
will be happy to add you to that mailing list, if you would like.

When I am working on a problem,
I never think about beauty.
I think only of how to solve the problem.

But when I have finished,
if the solution is not beautiful,
I know it is wrong.

Hi Michelle (and all),

Chalk up yet another CMU alum (H&SS, '94) and native Pittsburgher
(Forest Hills, home of the Vinny Pie) here. After not having been back
for 3 years my wife and I visited twice this year and can't believe the
transformation. Growing up there, constantly seeing Westinghouse
facilities and steel mills close was somewhat I feel
like the city is finding itself again, though it's not a singular
identity as before. This year I actually thought to myself "I'd really
like to move back here". Enjoy your program!

- Doug :-)
