A Northern Virginia based telecommunications company is looking for a
talented individual to fill the dual role of Information Architect and
Interaction Designer for a strategic new business unit within the company.
This position owns the information architecture, navigation, interaction and
user experience; researches and defines user needs, business goals and
requirements; and coordinates with the product manager, creative/art lead,
technical managers, project manager and other leads to inform, design and
facilitate the technical build.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

. Translates requirements, ideas, information/interaction designs,
and business/user needs into relevant, simple, elegant, and powerful designs
that resonate with users.

. Leads and coordinates efforts across teams to create and document
guidelines, designs, and specifications that elegantly address corporate
brand standards, user-centered design principles, as well as business and
operational requirements.

. Authors and maintains User Specifications and prototypes.

. Actively monitors and analyzes research, data, and trends from both
internal sources as well as industry published reports to inform both design
approach and frame of reference.

. Effectively and intelligently iterates designs via pinpointing key
data points from testing, reviews, etc.

. Presents and communicates design ideas and decisions clearly and
effectively across various organizations in any format required. Able to
sell, support, explain, and simply present design concepts/rationale to
various audience types from sophisticated design experts to non-designers.

QUALIFICATIONS:

. Experience working on large marketing, transactional, and
content-focused projects, as well as strong visual, content and creative
skills is required.

. Working knowledge of the technical components involved in creative
development is essential.

. Passion for design, design trends, great eye for detail, and
ability to distinguish between strong and weak design based on classic
design principles/tenets as well as current societal and cultural influences
on design.

. Advanced knowledge of web/handset/device design and user-centered
design principles preferred.

. Experience in start-up and new technology ventures a plus.

. Familiarity with related system usability and technical
requirements including: presentation layer infrastructure design, Content
Management Systems, Digital Asset Management, Global Management Systems,
etc.

. Ability to self-manage and lead projects including: project plan
creation, milestone setting, and issue/task management.

. Knowledge of accessibility/508 compliance needs/localization
rules/standards a plus.

. Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Human Factors Engineering,
Communications, Marketing, Cognitive Psychology, or other relevant
information design related fields. Related certifications and/or Master's
degree a plus.

. Ability to work across multiple teams, gather input, resolve
conflict, and gain consensus.

. Self-starter with a "can do" attitude who is dedicated to
delivering superior results.

. Ability to effectively prioritize and manage multiple projects in a
fast-paced environment.

. Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

. Expert user of Word, Excel, Visio, and familiarity with InDesign,
Quark or other tools. Experience with Dreamweaver and Photoshop a plus.
