How Big Can You Think?

Yahoo! Search Marketing offers essential marketing services for
companies doing business
online. The group's search-based products and tools help businesses
connect with highly
motivated customers. We are looking for a YSM UED Director to lead the
User Experience and
Design group for Yahoo!Search Marketing
(http://searchmarketing.yahoo.com/) . The team consists
of interaction designers, visual designers, and user researchers. The
group's charter is to
define and design the user experience for all aspects of the Yahoo!
Advertiser and Publisher
Experience. This is a great opportunity to work on products that impacts
millions of people.

Responsibilities include:
o Partner with executives, product managers, technologists and business
strategists across
multi-disciplinary teams to build best of class advertiser and publisher
products.
o Provide direction and vision to the design team
o Inspire, excite and motivate your team and key stakeholders
o Collaborate with other functional groups (such as product management
and engineering) and
help drive processes and work practices that lead to efficient and high
quality work
o Foster and support a collaborative, innovative culture
o Work across the company to determine common practices and standards
o Apply user-centered experience design practice and advocate the users'
perspective
o Oversee multiple projects simultaneously from planning to launch
o Define priorities and manage resources as appropriate across projects
o Manage and mentor designers: performance reviews, compensation and
career growth

Minimum Job Qualifications:
o Management experience: At least 8 years total experience, with a
minimum of 5 years managing
a large design team with company-wide impact. Must have managed an
organization of at least
10 people with various skills, and have experience supporting 10+
projects simultaneously. Proven
track record in delivering world-class products.
o Design experience: Background in Product Design, Interaction Design,
Human Factors, HCI,
Information Design, or related field. Must be well versed in all areas
of UI design with a history
of creating elegant and effective user experiences. Solid understanding
of the design of
Web applications and services. Need to have superb information design
sensibility and a sound
understanding of how to leverage user research effectively.
o Vision: proven experience rallying people behind a vision and ability
to innovate
o Quality: Demands and delivers world-class design, has incredible eye
for detail and appreciation
for the subtleties of creating the best Search experience.
o Communication: strong analytical and oral communication skills;
excellent interpersonal and
leadership skills; able to collaborate effectively with others in a
cross-functional team
o Leadership: Must know how to inspire people, motivate and reward them;
be able to make tough
decisions and address issues in a timely manner; use good judgment to
know when to fight a battle
and do it well and when to hold back.
o Scope: Must have experience shipping products for large enterprise
audiences as well as Consumer
audiences, and be used to working on many products simultaneously.
o Process: Must understand user centered design and product development
processes, and use these
effectively. Must have a proven track record of driving process change
to enable Design teams to
work more effectively. Must be organized and able to switch rapidly
between different projects in
a fast-paced and exciting environment
o Experience working on Monetization products and understanding of
Search Marketing would be ideal.
