[apologies for the cross-post]

I'm looking for a good icon designer. I seem to recall someone posted a
Russian Icon Designer who had done some work for them not to long ago,
but can't remember which group I saw it in.

Any recommends?

Cheers!

In theory, theory and practice are the same.
In practice, they are not.

I really like this guy's work:

Completely the opposite direction from the cheap methamphetamine candy
look that's so popular these days, but very classy.

One of the best in the business is Dino Paxenos, the chief icon
designer for AOL. He also does great large-scale icon-inspired
paintings.

For OS X style, Buzz Andersen's brother Bobby is in high school, but in
increasing demand. Here's an update and contact info.

I would highly recommend Artsource Studios based in
Seattle, WA.

Artsource is a staffing agency, but their subsidiary
Artsource Studios has an excellent team of icon
designers who have several years of experience and
have worked on Microsoft products. They price projects
on a per project basis.

Their icon designers have also helped design the
Windows Icon style guidelines. They do great work,
their pricing is competitive and they have a very
quick turn around. Additionally, they have several
icon designers, so staffing is flexible and if
something happens, there is more than one designer to
work on the project. I looked at having individual
designers, looked at expensive design firms and
Artsource, and went with Artsource becauuse they had
the most experience, best portfolio, best pricing and
were the most flexible with my design requirements.

I have used them for 3 projects now and am very happy
with the results. Contact Hayley of Artsource at:

There's a guy who does a lot of the Gnome and Ximian icons, he's based in
Europe and is often pretty busy as he does do contract work as well. Check
it out: http://jimmac.musichall.cz/ikony.php3
<http://jimmac.musichall.cz/ikony.php3> . Personally I love his blend of
colour, depth and simplicity.

Anyone have any suggestions for freelance icon design, particularly
in the NYC area? I have reviewed the old postings in the archive,
and would like to take a look at a few more people if others have
suggestions that have not yet been posted.

thanks -

At the end of last year, Firewheel Design (www.firewheeldesign.com) did
a very large (400+) icon redesign project for us in a very short time
period. Given the relative lack of guidance that some groups gave for
their icons, we were quite impressed at the turn around speed and
quality of the icons. And, they've been great to work with when we've
had revision requests. I'm quite pleased because though I had only
admired their work before I pointed our folks towards them, they
surpassed my expectations.

Firewheel is based out of the Dallas area, but that didn't prove to be a
problem for us.
