Hi Liz

Yes, we will be publishing the results of the survey as soon as we can.
Tania is going to analyze the data, then I'll write the report. Things are
going rather slower than we'd hoped, because both Tania and I are very busy
right now. I've feel badly about not being able to publish sooner, so I've
been sharing little bits of information here and there. :-)

Hello,

My company is opening a position for an IxD, and I would really appreciate it if someone here might point me in the direction of some salary data, particularly regional data for the Pacific Northwest. I need to be able to justify a good salary. ;-)

Thanks!

Hi George,

I know of a few sources, although not one appears to be reflecting salary ranges for the years 2005 onwards. Nonetheless, perhaps information from these links may help you.

http://www.useit.com/alertbox/salaries.html
http://www.peakusability.com.au/resources/usability-salary-survey.html
http://www.stcsig.org/usability/topics/salary.html
http://www.usabilityprofessionals.org/upa_publications/upa_voice/survey/2000_survey.html

This source appears to provide salary for this year, but I don't think this is a reliable source for actual salaries for a UX professional.

http://www.indeed.com/salary/Usability-Engineer.html

Of course, factor in cost of living, years of experience, and a portfolio.

Best,
Shilpa

The IA Institute conducts an annual survey. Here are the most recent results:

The results for 2007 should be available soon as well.

Many thanks to all of you for pointing me in the right direction. I saw some familiar surveys, but hadn't ever looked at them specifically for data on IxD.

Wilson,

Surveys that were mentioned are all too often for "usability professionals" generally. As you know, that can run the gamut from low to high end positions. Teasing out what might be considered an Interaction Designer, particularly when the survey does not call that out specifically or when several different job titles may indicate design of the user interaction (senior designer?), is difficult.

Many of the surveys are several years old, so you have to extrapolate. But here is the consolidated list of surveys that was graciously sent to me by members of this list. Again, many thanks to those who did so. I hope to see some names from this list in the set of applicants for this job when it opens up.

George - can you share what you discovered? What are some good places to get this data from?
Thanks,
Russ
