Landmark, a leading provider of software and services for the upstream
oil and gas industry, is looking for an interaction designer and
usability professional to join our team in our Houston office. Whoever
we hire will most likely be primarily working on a new collaboration
that we have with EMC (at first) and would also work on other projects
as well. We are looking for someone who is a flexible generalist who can
design as well as conduct usability tests.

Responsibilities
• Lead the interaction design effort for one or more products
• Work closely with development, product management and other groups to
optimize the user experience for our customers and to make ease of use a
product differentiator
• Communicate designs through storyboards, interaction design
specifications and process flow diagrams.
• Create paper and interactive prototypes to gather early feedback
• Validate designs using a variety of methods, including usability
testing, focus groups, surveys, etc.
• Work with other usability team members to optimize the design process
and apply design standards to ensure a common look and feel across all
products
• Learn sufficient domain specific material to understand some of the
issues involved for the end users
• Some occasional travel may be required

Required Qualifications
• Minimum of 3 years experience leading interaction design and usability
efforts for desktop and web applications in a software company
development environment
• Must understand all phases of designing an enterprise software
product, including planning and scheduling tasks
• Must demonstrate experience understanding complex systems, and be both
big-picture and detail oriented
• Experience developing user profiles, scenarios, usability
requirements, and leading brainstorming sessions
• Experience validating designs using usability testing, focus groups,
surveys, and other creative methods
• Ability to work well with product management and development to
validate product requirements and convert them into usable product designs
• Must have excellent communication skills
• Must be passionate about improving software usability
• Must be a team player and work well in a collaborative environment
• Willingness and ability to quickly learn new tools and technologies
• Familiarity with Windows, Java, and web application interface design
guidelines
• Proficiency with design tools such as PhotoShop, Illustrator, Visio,
and/or Canvas
• Online portfolio or digital portfolio attached to resume

Desired Qualifications
• Experience working with remote development teams
• Visual design skills
• Experience with Documentum products

Education
• Bachelor’s degree in interaction design, human factors, human computer
interaction, usability, graphics design, fine arts, or a related design
discipline

Working at Landmark will be challenging at times because of the domain
knowledge to be learned as well as the level of sophistication of the
organization with regards to design and usability. But, those challenges
mean opportunity as well. Definitely a plus is the fact that almost
everyone has a healthy life-work balance (unless they choose not to) and
an office.

Houston is a large, cosmopolitan city well known for its restaurants and
affordable housing. Summers are hot, humid, and long, but winters are
mild. I believe that some relocation will be paid, but that needs to be
verified and negotiated.
