Funny you should ask. Microsoft recently released there own social
networking site, based in flash.
They are opening it up to Flash mods as well, and have an interesting take
on network levels.
Wallop.com
Jennifer, I will also send an invite to you.

I'm a fan of Faketown!

very cute-- draw your own creations and then sell them to other
people...or build a house and furnish it. Tons of cool functionality
around music and video too though i haven't explored it all.

Some of the flash-based communities which lets you create avatars are
WeeWorld <http://www.weeworld.com/>,
Cyworld<http://us.cyworld.com/main/index.php>,
Habbo Hotel <http://www.habbohotel.co.uk/>, Gaia
Online<http://www.gaiaonline.com/>.
One of my personal favorites is a relatively new service called
combots<http://www.combots.com>
These might not use all-flash interface (unlike wallop) but the main
features like chat and communications are built in flash.

Here's another one-- not sure how i feel about it but kids love it:
http://www.urbaniacs.com
The emphasis is on creating wacky avatars and playing games. There are
some great ideas in there, like a list of "Recently Sighted" people.
Again, not all of it is Flash.
Hope that helps,
maya

Tagworld is not entirely flash based, but they are doing some interesting
things with adding flash "widgets" on http://www.tagworldwidgets.com
Also, there's a company called Userplane http://www.userplane.com that was
recently purchased by AOL. Userplane is not a social networking site, but
they do provide some really cool flash-based ad-ons to sites like Chat
Rooms, Web-based IM, desktop and Web presence detection, and A/V recording.
They are (possibly "were", I'm not that current) used by Myspace, JDate,
Friendster, and a bunch of other sites for Web-based IM.
