Usability practitioners are in the enviable position of researching and
evaluating new technologies - but are often limited by the tools available
for conducting this research. A number of solutions have recently become
available to support the process of user research. There are also several
emerging technologies that have the potential to change what/how research
will be performed in the near future.

The presentation will cover the following topics:
• The goals and limitations of current user research technologies
• Overview of some of the latest user research tools (e.g. remote testing,
eye tracking, digital ethnography)
• Criteria for evaluating user research technology
• Discussion of emerging technology trends (e.g. ubiquitous computing,
product integration) and their impact on user research capabilities

Attendees to the presentation will gain a better understanding of what user
research technology can and cannot do, what tools are currently available to
support research, and what may be available in the future.
