"3. Can you point me to a favorite article that explains why I want a
newsreader? Or write one yourself? On two attempts to get the fever, I
gave up. This, despite the fact that I spend most lunchtimes reading
stuff from the web... that I print out and read while walking."

E-Paper is the one technology that I've been waiting for many years to
mature but never quite lives up to my imagination. If I could get a
gadget the size of a small paperback that folds and bends and is
resistant to water that allows me to read newspaper content, books, news
feeds, etc I would be over the moon.
If the NYT NewsReader allows the software for such a device to grow and
mature, then all the better. What is really lacking is the hardware to
support this software.

I agree. e-paper + flash memory are waiting for being used in e-news,
e-books, etc... what's like is the software and the Industrial Design +
distribution combo (a la iTunes/iPod). If it's full color it can also be
used as photo galleries.
