[JOB] IxD Lead (full-time): Fluid, San Francisco, CA [USA]
20 Jul 2006 - 5:59pm
Fluid, Inc. (http://www.fluid.com/) is looking for a full-time
interaction design lead in the San Francisco Bay Area, with commerce,
retail or other online transactional experience. This role combines
creative leadership, creative direction and conceptual design of the
next generation of online consumer experiences.
We’re looking for those hard-to-describe cross-disciplinary designers
between information architecture, interaction design and visual design.
Your primary output are screen wireframes, based on solid data on user
behaviors and business needs, but they have a lot of design
sensibilities to them. Yet somehow brand suffuses your work, as you
understand that online, the user experience is often your client’s
brand. Your work is conceptually and strategically driven, but your
output takes that strategy and wraps interactive tactics around it. You
also have the professionalism, patience and good humor to lead a
project-level creative team from concept to completion.
Ever feel caught between Visio, Illustrator and Photoshop, or
sandwiched somewhere between a wireframe, a storyboard, and a fully
fleshed-out mockup? Then you’re exactly who we’re looking for.
You'll create the "design behind the design" for e-commerce websites,
applications, and other digital experiences, including customer
profiles and personas, user flows and use-case scenarios, site and
product architectures, high-level interaction design, information
design, and wireframe screen schematics, as project needs require.
Usability theory and information design best practices guide your
decisions, balanced with our clients' business needs and their
customers' needs and goals. You will also have enough understanding of
design to critique the work of the designers who sculpt the final
pixels around your innovative concepts and storyboards.
You will be formally schooled in design, information science, or HCI.
But ultimately you'll need three to five years of experience doing
interaction design on the job. Experience designing for online retail
or e-commerce is a significant advantage.
Expertise in Microsoft Visio 2003 is a requirement, and general
knowledge of standard Adobe design and production tools is expected.
Substantial knowledge of the limitations of various online technologies
(XHTML/CSS, DHTML/AJAX, Flash, Java, and more) is also required. You
must have a keen attention to detail, but be able to understand,
describe, and approach problems from higher-level, strategic
perspectives. You should be able to clearly communicate your concepts,
ideas, solutions, and designs to both internal teams as well as to the
client. Every project Fluid completes is elegantly architected,
functionally sound, and emotively on-brand…and you share similar
If this describes you, we look forward to hearing from you.
Please email your portfolio URL, a letter of interest, and resume
detailing your training and experience, to job.ixd.0607-ixdg at fluid.com.
Please tell us about yourself and how you approach the discipline of
information design. We will review submissions and contact you if you
meet the criteria listed above.
