JOB DESCRIPTION:

The QuickBooks User Centered Design team seeks a Visual Design Manager
to help build our growing design team and uplift our design efforts. It
could be you! You could play a role in defining and building a strong
user experience team that actively works with a variety of functional
teams across the business unit which produces essential and innovative
financial and accounting software for
small- and medium-sized businesses. We seek a strong visual designer
with previous leadership and some product/interaction design experience,
one with vision and passion around brand, product identity, visual
design excellence and innovation, customer engagement. Responsibilities
include development of visual design concepts, product attributes,
iconography, and oversight of related design projects and visual design
specs. Will include oversight of other individuals responsible for
related design work and partnership with interaction design leads; could
also include oversight of outside vendors and agencies and contract
designers.
Role will also include project management and feature-level and
product-level product design responsibilities-that is the development of
UI solutions and architectural models.

The Visual Design Manager will coordinate and collaborate with fellow
user experience team members and QuickBooks business, marketing, and
product development team members on brand, visual design, iconography,
design objectives, wire frames, user tasks and scenarios, QuickBooks
brand goals.

Successful candidate will be well trained in design, illustrate an
ability to apply strategic thinking and business goals to brand anvisual
design work, possess an understanding of both work flow and product
design, and will be known for having a good eye, visual flair, and
aesthetic values. Will show leadership, empathy, and agility in managing
teams, resources, talent. Will be a strong, considerate art director.
Candidate will have previously developed visual design, graphic
identity, and look and feel programs and will have developed related
guidelines and specs that developers, designers, and fellow brand team
members may use to both implement and evangelize visual design concepts
and solutions.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
* Lead by example, smarts, and design principals
* Be capable of defining and implementing visual design vision,
guidelines, consistency and quality, from brand to packaging to
product
* Partner well with Marketing, Brand, Development, Management
personnel; be a strong and effective influencer
* Be tolerant of range of projects that the design team will
respond to, from vague to well-defined, simple to complex,
implementation to innovation, from hands-on to art direction
* Be a capable and insightful lead who can help build team
skills and influence their design and business contribution
* Point to powerful and effective visual design and change
management programs
* Be a creative problem-solver and effective presenter and
communicator

QUALIFICATIONS:
* Four-year product design or graphic design degree
* Eight to 15 years industry experience (combination of
corporate, software, web, agency experience)
* A range of visual design experience from print to identity and
packaging to UI
* Five plus years management and personnel growth experience.
* Experience in shipping high-volume, high-profile, or
award-winning software products.
* Strong portfolio available for viewing
* Communication or productivity application experience a plus
* Experience with all major design, multimedia, and operating
system software: Photoshop, Flash, Director, Windows, Office (Word,
Excel, Outlook) Quark Express, PageMaker (Mac experience acceptable
as long as candidate has significant experience designing and
producing on the PC as well.)
