New York IxDA

Message to the group

The IxDA New York City local group organizes monthly presentations and workshops for people interested in interaction design. Our events gather together a vibrant community of professionals who design interactive systems, services and products of all kinds: web, desktop, enterprise, mobile, consumer electronics, digitally-enhanced environments, and more. Our programming is created by a passionate group of local leader volunteers and realized through the generosity of speakers, sponsors, and host partners. While our events cater to the interaction design community, all are welcome.

If you have an idea for an event, use our event form to tell us about it.

[EVENT] NYCUPA - Tues 9/20/11 - "Whaddaya Mean, I'm Not Qualified?" A Discussion On Roles and Experience In The User Experience Industry

EVENT DESCRIPTION:
When it comes to to finding a job in the user experience industry, there's a lot of heartache. There are the confusing acronyms (IxD, UX, IA, etc.), and the job descriptions (like "wireframe") that mean different things to different people. How does a person transition into the field? Are you selling yourself short? How many years of experience do you need? And how much should these jobs pay?

[EVENT] NYCUPA Presents: Andrew DeVigal On Multimedia Storytelling For The NYTimes.com - Monday 4/18 at 6pm

How does someone who spends most of his day in meetings and has ridiculously short deadlines satisfy one of the most demanding clients on earth? How does he deal with technology constraints, and work with subject matter that heats up and then cools down? NYTimes.com Multimedia Editor Andrew DeVigal gives us a rare look at how the interactive department of New York Times works, and shares the basic questions he must ask -and answer- before anything goes online.

[EVENT] NYCUPA - A Discussion On The Future Of Financial Services For The Retail Customer, With Ted Booth - February 15, 2011 06:00 PM - 08:30 PM

The customer experience for a retail banking or credit card consumer may have never been as bad as it now. The government did what it could to help an industry that basically imploded, intervening particularly on behalf of consumers to protect their rights. But by the time the dust settled, people’s faith in their banks, credit card companies, and lenders had been severely –and in many cases, irreparably– damaged. This unfortunately comes at a time when people need more help than ever with managing their finances and staying out of debt.

Leslie has assured me that neither she nor her colleagues wear lab coats, and that there are no electrodes involved at any time.
