IxDA Pittsburgh

Message to the group

IxDA is an organization devoted to serving the Interaction Design community in Pittsburgh through activities and discussions that facilitate growth, understanding, and development of the profession. IxDA pittsburgh is a chapter of the international Interaction Design Association.

Our events include speakers, panels and workshops and are held pretty much bi-monthly.. Rather than meeting on a specific day or week, we remain flexible, scheduling events to meet the availability of speakers, hosts, and organizers. Some of the previous hosts of our events are listed in the Local links section. We also meet informally on a monthly basis for alternating happy hour/coffee shop meetups in different locations around the city. These provide a way for members to meet other local designers, talk about trends in the industry, and share projects, problems and ideas.

Our members include anyone who is interested in facilitating positive and engaging experiences for people. Our practitioners are interaction designers, industrial designers, visual designers, product designers, developers, game designers, roboticists - you name it. To become a member, all you have to do is create an account on IxDA.org, subscribe to our mailing lists to learn about events and show up. We try to keep all of our events totally free. You can also find us on Facebook or follow us on twitter @IxDAPGH. Please join us!

Are you up on the Pittsburgh design scene? Do you read blogs or other local media? Do you tweet 24-7?

IxDA Pittsburgh could use your help. Our organization is looking for a PR Chair (or a ‘PR Team’) to promote events, facilitate online discussions, reach out to local media, and take advantage of social networking to get the word out about IxDA Pittsburgh.

This is just the start. Long term, our plan is to create a strategic roadmap for making IxDA the go-to resource for all things Interaction Design focused in Pittsburgh. We hope to start small and take baby steps. This is an important role that won’t take up all of your time.

Event Recap - One Big Design Happy Hour at Embury

Members of Pittsburgh IxDA, AIGA, IDSA and CMU's HCII program met Wednesday after work to socialize and enjoy specialty cocktails at Embury at the Strip District. The group sampled Martinis, Manhattans, Gimlets, smoky tasting cocktails and ones made with ginger and jalapeño. As we got to know one another, we chatted about our
companies, design in Pittsburgh, and what kind of events we can co-host in the future. Thanks to the folks at Embury for hosting - we appreciate the experience they've designed for their customers.
