IxDA Pittsburgh

Message to the group

IxDA is an organization devoted to serving the Interaction Design community in Pittsburgh through activities and discussions that facilitate growth, understanding, and development of the profession. IxDA pittsburgh is a chapter of the international Interaction Design Association.

Our events include speakers, panels and workshops and are held pretty much bi-monthly.. Rather than meeting on a specific day or week, we remain flexible, scheduling events to meet the availability of speakers, hosts, and organizers. Some of the previous hosts of our events are listed in the Local links section. We also meet informally on a monthly basis for alternating happy hour/coffee shop meetups in different locations around the city. These provide a way for members to meet other local designers, talk about trends in the industry, and share projects, problems and ideas.

Our members include anyone who is interested in facilitating positive and engaging experiences for people. Our practitioners are interaction designers, industrial designers, visual designers, product designers, developers, game designers, roboticists - you name it. To become a member, all you have to do is create an account on IxDA.org, subscribe to our mailing lists to learn about events and show up. We try to keep all of our events totally free. You can also find us on Facebook or follow us on twitter @IxDAPGH. Please join us!

Looking for a web design freelancer in the pittsburgh area

Hey folks,

I'm looking for someone who has a lot of availability right now for a month long (probably longer) project developing a concept for educational software. I would like someone who has experience making pixel perfect mockups (no coding needed), and user research experience.

Sketching tools & methods for UI concept, visual design, flow of interaction

Hello, Pittsburgh community. There have been a number of successful threads on the main IxDA discussion forum, debating the merits of different prototyping tools, or at least mentioning the existence of many. What do you find to be the best, or easiest-to-crack-into, tools for designers to create interactive prototypes? For articulating concept; communicating behavior to developers, clients, or other stakeholders; and testing for success?

Here are just a few mentioned in threads on the main forum within the past year.

WORKSHOP: Break the Fidelity Barrier in Interaction Prototyping with Chris Connors, Interaction Design Director, Daedalus

Low-fidelity, high-fidelity -- how can we get more specific? Chris Connors presents a set of five dimensions, along which prototypes can be planned and characterized. With an understanding of these dimensions and how to dial them in, IxD and HCI practitioners can direct scarce prototyping resources to yield specific, successful results. Mark your calendar for this talk and audience activity with Chris Connors, who has developed Mars mission planning tools at the NASA Ames HCI Group, and desktop and iPad applications at Apple.

More details coming soon.
