IxDA Pittsburgh
Message to the group
IxDA Pittsburgh was founded when Michele Marut and Jack Moffett decided to have a face-to-face at the Southside Works Caribou Coffee in December of 2005. After a number of social meet-ups, a core group formed a planning committee and began organizing programs. It built slowly over the next few years with support from several local design firms.
These days, we try to schedule an event about every month. Rather than meeting on a specific day or week, we remain flexible, scheduling events to meet the availability of speakers, hosts, and organizers. In the past, we have been hosted by firms such as General Dynamics Viz, Fit, and Gist. We’ve toured CMU’s Entertainment Technology Center, participated in a joint-organization, sustainable restaurant crawl, and held an event during which three designers spoke about designing software for military clients. The Pittsburgh design community is a rich and varied one, ranging from the academic programs at CMU and its many technology spin-offs, to a thriving medical industry thanks to UPMC. There’s sure to be something of interest to everyone.
