Event description:

The Hackathon is an IxDA organized event meant to elevate the creative community, startup culture, and entrepreneurial spirit of Richmond.

We're bringing together designers, developers, thinkers, and entrepreneurs - in a fast paced, no holds barred competition that produces unbelievable creativity and great excitement. Participant teams produce a real and functioning application in less than 12 hours.

The winning team receives a grand prize of $2,000.00

  • Entry is limited to 45 participants - organized into 8 teams.
  • Participating teams will choose 1 of 2 problems/ideas presented by pitchmen.
  • Participating teams are expected to build a web/tablet/mobile application that will solve the problem/meet the idea they choose. This can be done in HTML5, iOS, any coding language, can tap into any APIs, etc. - whichever suits your fancy. What matters is that the final product is a functional application that meets the need of your team's chosen pitch.
  • Teams have full ownership of everything they build. Your code, your design, your product.
  • Teams of 5 people are allowed, and there will be no more than 8 teams. Each team member and team is responsible for bringing their own devices to work, test, and present with. Please bring your smart phone, tablet, or laptop!
  • Demos must be presented at the end of the day. Each team will have 5 minutes to showcase their application to judges. Judging will be based on functionality, creativity, and impact - does it solve the chosen problem? Be original! Unique and functional applications are expected.
