Customers Included: An Evening with Mark Hurst

 Why can't some companies manage to give customers what they want? Drawing on case studies from his new book "Customers Included," Mark Hurst will describe how "listening to customers" is often misunderstood, if not ignored outright, leading to poor outcomes.

Case studies will include a well-intentioned clean water project that failed spectacularly (due to a misunderstanding about the nature of innovation) and a major corporate initiative that wasted hundreds of millions of dollars because customers were not properly included in the design and strategy process. In response to these, Hurst will suggest an easy way for companies to include the customer while building consensus among internal stakeholders.

There will be time for Q&A to comment or ask Mark about other popular topics in ecommerce today: disruption, personas, Agile/Lean, rapid prototyping, and more.

Mark Hurst ( is the founder of Creative Good and the host of the Gel conference. He has spent his career writing and speaking about how organizations and individuals can create better customer experiences. In 2007 he wrote "Bit Literacy," the first book to describe the zero-inbox productivity method. In 2013 he co-authored "Customers Included," describing how teams and organizations can create successful products and strategies by including customers in the process.
