Description: 

Cars.com, a top-tier online destination for automobile shoppers and sellers, seeks an experienced and passionate UX Designer to join our growing User Experience and Design group. The UX Designer will contribute to our user interface requirements and rapid prototyping practices and lead the roll out of iRise across the UX team. 

The UX Designer will collaborate closely with other user experience managers, designers, product managers, editors and front-end developers to design intuitive products that make the car shopping experience a pleasure while also meeting business needs. 

This opening is in our Chicago Loop office and offers an opportunity to join a great team working for an established, profitable, online brand that’s expanding quickly. This position will offer broad exposure to all Cars.com products. 

In this role you will: 

•Prototype and wireframe user interactions for external and internal client validation.

•Create and demonstrate low-, medium-, and high-fidelity visualizations using iRise and related tools.

•Create UX / IA deliverables including wireframes, site maps, schematics, process maps, feature lists, mockups, visual specification, working prototypes and other artifacts to describe the intended user experience.

•Contribute to and maintain a reusable content library of design patterns, UI components and templates.

•Communicate interaction models and design ideas to business stakeholders and other team members.

•Be an advocate for prototyping and visualization early and often in the process.

•Help train team members on iRise and rapid prototyping.

 •Assist in creating simulations for user-research and usability testing.

•Contribute to early-stage design ideation and high-level brainstorming.

Required Skills

•Proficiency with design and prototyping tools such as iRise, Axure, Fireworks, Photoshop, Visio, Omnigraffle or equivalent.

•Experience documenting or participating in business and user interface requirements gathering.

•Be knowledgeable and passionate about usability and modern best practices for interaction patterns

•Strong written and oral communication skills and proven ability to work with cross-functional teams.

•Demonstrate a history of building easy-to-use user interfaces, and a solid understanding of usability issues, best practices, and interaction patterns with a portfolio to prove it.

•Hands-on ability to solve complex user (cognitive) problems through interface design and usability expertise.

•Prior experience creating consistent and reusable site-wide pattern systems.

•Ability to hand code semantic HTML & CSS and familiarity with other Internet technologies and front-end production techniques is a plus.

•Strong visual design foundation including adept use of grids, typography, color harmony, and attention to overall aesthetic details a plus.

•Prior experience designing for Mobile/iPhone platforms a plus.

Required Experience

•Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Graphic Design, Human-Computer Interaction, Human Factors, Cognitive Science, Information Design or related field.

•At least five years experience as a UX, UI or Interaction designer in a corporate or consulting environment. Experience working on large-scale consumer facing websites is a plus.
