User Interface Designer, Mobile & Web

Overview:

The User Interface Designer reports to the Executive Director of Product Management and is responsible for designing user interactions for Aliph's mobile and web products that delight and inspire the user, are simple and intuitive to use, align with our visual brand identity, and deliver functionality that achieves our business objectives.

In this critical role our successful candidate exhibit extreme passion for constantly pushing the boundaries of UI, while also leveraging tried-and-true techniques for building intuitive interfaces and maintaining user engagement. S/he can easily switch from understanding higher-level strategic business objectives to finessing visual designs at a vector or pixel level. S/he is a consummate collaborator who listens well. S/he is skilled at integrating all elements of feedback and is able to dramatically modify designs based on the specific needs of the project. S/he understands how to balance excellent design with timely delivery and is artful at making tough tradeoffs.

This individual will have an appreciation for the visual identity of the company and will be able to partner with graphic designers to tightly integrate the interaction with the visual design. S/he is well versed in animation/ interaction prototyping, product interaction, and the latest software tools. S/he is an excellent written and verbal communicator, hard-working, capable of managing multiple projects simultaneously, exudes positive energy and is willing to go the extra mile for the company and the customer.

Responsibilities:

• Driving cross-functional and cross-partner collaboration to integrate design goals and apply them to inspired interaction models that create genuinely seamless user experiences.
• Maintaining and refining clear, up-to-date user interface designs that clearly communicate the intention and envisioned experience, based on user feedback and new features and functionality over time.
• Driving thought leadership in user interaction design to create industry-leading designs that are fresh, unique, and differentiate our mobile and web products.
• Defining, organizing, and updating style guides and wireframes, which can be leveraged across a portfolio of products.
• Working closely with product management to understand the goals of the product and bring it to life in the designs.
• Working closely with engineers to communicate design intent while understanding the limitations of the technology developing workable designs.

Requirements:

• 2 to 6 years professional experience with demonstrated success in building user interface designs across mobile (iPhone, RIM, Android) and AJAX websites
• Fluency in layout/ UI design (e.g. Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, Visio, Omni Graffle, PowerPoint and Acrobat)
• Familiarity with CSS, prototype.js, jQuery, etc.

Preferred:

• HTML5 experience
• Experience designing connected applications that seamlessly tie together offline and online states across a variety of devices
• Experience integrating audio design into applications
• Experience working within a fast-paced startup environment

Education:

BS Degree highly preferred.
