Blink Interactive is currently seeking a Usability Engineer to provide on-site
consulting for a greater Seattle client. The range of research for this
position includes both software and hardware studies from the early
stages of development, including prototypes, to final product
evaluations. Experience with a wide range of user-centered design
methodologies and cognitive psychology concepts for analysis of user
interface issues and end-user preferences is essential.
An understanding in ergonomics, comfort and hardware usability is highly
desirable. The ability to create compelling visual presentations to
communicate results and synthesize research findings into best practices
and guidelines is a plus. The ideal candidate will have previous
consulting experience with a track record of delivering compelling
research findings and recommendations on-time and on-budget.
Job Responsibilities
- Working on-site with the client to propose evaluations and usability research methods.
- Leading usability studies, including all planning and execution.
- Analyzing usability findings, preparing usability reports and
presentations, and editing video highlights from usability testing
sessions.
- Acting as a customer advocate for any assigned product or area while understanding the business goals of the client.
- Delivering findings that ensure the usability and effectiveness of interfaces for their intended users.
Qualifications
- Demonstrated understanding of usability theory, methods, and practice.
- Minimum 2 – 3 years experience designing and conducting usability studies.
- Ability to drive projects independently, scope research needs and identify appropriate methods to address research questions.
- Experience in user interface design for websites, software, and/or web-based applications.
- A strong business sense and the ability to work on multiple projects at one time.
- Excellent presentation, oral communication, and writing skills.
- Proven ability to identify and communicate potential solutions to observed user interface problems.
- A high comfort level with computer hardware and experience with lab and testing equipment set up.
- Working knowledge of video editing techniques.
- A working knowledge of browser-based technology constraints/capabilities (e.g. HTML, JavaScript, Flash).
- You will need access to a car to drive to client meetings on a regular basis, but will be reimbursed for mileage
- Advanced degree in Human Factors, Psychology, HCI, Ergonomics or related field is preferred.
