Help: Looking for another me

At the risk of stroking my own ego (astrology gives us August-born a good
excuse!), I'm looking to employ a version of me - who's probably a bit
better at finished art/design work than I am and could haved a bit less
experience or strategic influence.

This email is not a job posting, but rather a call for some advice on what
exactly I'm looking for - both title-wise and how to find one.

Allow me first to explain the domain in which we work. We write what was
called thick-client software. Today this may be called Rich or Smart
Clients, but think you understand my drift.

Fw: Publicly available video resource?

Though I'm mindful of the fact that you're in the UK and downloading video
may be something of a chore, I'd suggest you give The Open Video Project ( a look.

There's a lot there but you could start by riffling through the Collections
(especially, the stuff from the Uni of Maryland ...

Publicly available video resource?

Does anyone know of any publicly available user video resource?
I'm looking to include a clip of an animated user using a poorly designed
application in a presentation I'm hoping to give to my business.

Any assistance will be gratefully received.

Reading suggestions

I'm trying to update my skills in graphical design and design of GUI. Last
time I focused on the excellent "Designing Visual Interfaces" by
Mullet&Sano. Anyone got suggestions for other good books on GUI-design and
communication oriented graphical design? What books are essential and why?
I'll appreciate all answers.

Hans (and others),

Ok, so after about 4 versions of this e-mail (the power of the iterative
process); I have added a header to all messages (now I'm sure people will
complain about its length; so please send them directly to me ONLY).

The badly shod shoemaker

Dear all;

I subscribe to this list in digest. The last digest I received scored
very low on my personal usability scale. I like this list and want to
continue being able to read it in a clear and assimilable form. Given
the nature of our mutual interests, there is something ironic in the
fact that this is an issue!

I appreciate that there are questions of cost, host capacity, and so
on, and also that someone has to do the thankless work of setting such
