Cognitive Task Analysis?

Hi All, was looking for some pointers on Cognitive Task Analysis.

What are the major differences between HTA and CTA? Are there any specific advantages of using Cognitive Task Analysis than HTA? Is there a specific context where CTA has to be adopted than HTA?

Please do share some samples and pointers, would be of great help :)    thanks

Courses for Usability Experience Specialist

Having had interest in product development and ergonomics for many years,  I'm in the process of moving away from graphic design to learn more about becoming a Usability Specialist. Can this be achieved by taking some courses or would I have to go back to school for a  few more years? I'm based in NYC btw.

Re: [IxDA] Agile release cycles: every three weeks bad?

Can I add (in my short the short time of working with so many project managers trying to utilise agile) that I am seeing a difference between the sprints for release and the product / feature launch in the cycle and planning of things.

The language, when in meetings can get lost and everyone is focused on completion and release and the launch plan is designed near the end of the project. Where thinking up front (like UX and product development to think of the plan and goals up front) the launch plan and releases can be incorporated in the sprint and release planning.

Re: [IxDA] Why is Drupal is a Good Choice for a Community Website?

Finding the right content management system is always a difficult challenge. None of them are perfect. Finding a decent open source CMS can be even more challenging because they're being produced voluntarily by people whose main enjoyment is programming, not user experience. I've been working with Plone for over a year now and I can't image Drupal being any worse. And since IxDA has essentially no budget, open source is the natural choice. So while Drupal may not be perfect, is there a better open source solution? I doubt it.

Re: [IxDA] What is the new metaphor?

To follow up with some interesting reading for this topic, I got an email newsletter from 'putting people first', a UX, people centred web site.

The link below will take you to some free sections of a book Mike Kuniavsky on Interaction Metaphors.

Effectiveness of mobile surveys

Hi,  we're looking at building out a rich mobile survey for a client.  Prior to presenting our POV, we'd like to bolster our case by referencing past mobile surveys.

If anyone can point me in the right direction, when it comes to other Case Studies or successful, we would greatly appreciated.

Why is Drupal is a Good Choice for a Community Website?

Hi-

First off, I WANT to like Drupal and I WANT to not cringe every time I'm brought onto a project where the development team is using Drupal and we're not allowed to make a user-friendly site "in scope."

Re: [IxDA] What is the new metaphor?

I realised last year that this new term I heard for touch devices was NUI. Then I found out that people in HCI have been researching this stuff for a long time, not just with technology gadgets.
'Is there a new metaphor' is a great question.

Mind mapping a site map - how to turn it into a deliverable

We're mapping info architecture right now in a mind mapping tool (generates .mm files). This is for a content site (not a transactional site). We like how quick and easy it is to change the IA in the mind mapping tools, and like the ability to hide/show deeper nodes. But we are trying to figure out the best way to generate a deliverable for clients. Haven't figured out a good way to export it yet.
