Usability Reports: A waste of time?

Hi,

I'm wondering: how many of you think that writing a big report on
the findings/recommendations for a project is inefficient?

>From my experience, it seems that I end up discussing (and often
justifying) almost every single thing I write on the report, no
matter how logical it is.

Isn't a better way to just sit with the client's development team
and/or management, and get things done together?

I know Steve Krug is against reports, but I wanted to know what other
professionals' take on this matter.

Launching "User Interface Trends" site -- http://uitrends.com

I'm in the process of launching a new site (http://uitrends.com) with the
purpose of:

1) collecting trends and interesting user interface designs for websites and
web applications
2) promoting discussion (comments, rating, etc.) of the trends/designs

The site is definitely in beta, but want to share now with the community
because what is most
important to me on the site is the opinion and input of others. The more
expert input, the better.

Hope you find it interesting and useful.

best practices for a secure forgot password process

The use case I'm asking for input on is this: The user has forgotten
their password and types in an email address that is not in our
system. Currently we tell them that we don't have that email address
in our system and to try another or register. However, we have been
mandated to address the security issues around this approach.
Apparently, by telling the user we don't have that email address in
their system allows a hacker/attacher to keep trying other email
addresses until they get a match.

Nintendo Wii and \"Side Effects\"

I do not know if this topic has been discussed earlier, if so, I
apologize for posting it again.

Recently alot of articles that discuss Wii Fit users getting muscular
pain are being written.

User of Nintendo Wii get muscular pain due to an excessive use of the
console. The tennis game for instance invite the user/player to serve
and hit the tennis ball as a "real player".

My colleague came into work yesterday having massive pain in her back
and legs.

Complementary skillsets?

Hi,
I have many years of programming and technical communication and I'm
currently learning Interaction Design on an Open University course (
http://is.gd/2rpHx) which ends in October.

Because we all have to prioritise our time, I'd be interested in your
opinions about which of the following interests might best help me make the
transition into interesting IxD work:

- Building executable wireframes in JQuery or Silverlight - I'm a
competent programmer with skills in .Net, JScript and XML
- Analytics - I'm not a statistician but I do know the differen
