What are common Application Software Development Team sizes?

I am one of two interaction designers at a hardware company, and am
curious about the interaction design teams who work at software
companies and develop application software. What are the average
team sizes for the development of the User Interface and

Screen Reader for Outlook

Hmmm... it seems as if Text-to-Speech is only natively available in
Excel 2007 (not the more obvious choices, Outlook & Word):

Does anyone know of a decent free-or-cheap Text-to-Speech add-in/plugin
for Outlook?

Thanks in advance!

Security question: plain text entry or masked?

Hi all,

I'm reviewing an account creation page that contains username,
password, confirm password, a drop-down selection for security
question and a plaintext box for entering the security answer.

It's my gut feeling that the "security answer" box should also be
masked just like the password entries, although this would then
require another confirmation box. A quick Google on the subject did
not turn up any definitive answers so I turn it over to the wisdom of
the list...

Itsme emulator - Evaluate! (Need your opinion)

Since some of you are following the itsme project, I thought i should
inform you that the evaluation of itsme emulator has begun. Please
Evaluate the emulator at http://itsme.it/emulator-evaluation/

Its a short simple questionnaire that will take only 5-10 minutes of
your time. hope i can count upon you to spare that much time.

If you havent tried the new features that we added to the emulator. I
would reccommend doing that first.

Look forward to your feedback.

Resources/articles on UX for next gen automotiveinterfaces

Alicia -

Just for your interest, when I first got involved in card sorting I came
across a paper from a research team at an automotive manufacturer. They
had used card sorting in a big way to get people to say what dashboard
components and controls ought to be grouped together.

Does scaring users help an e-commerce site?

I am doing freelance user interface design for an e-commerce web site
which sells protection products against a certain insect.

I strongly recommend that the company avoid using scary pictures of
the insect on their site. I feel the user is already in a state of
panic and that these scare tactics do not promote sales. If the user
sees a picture of the scary bug, I expect it would add to the user's
stress, cause him/her to close the site and look else where for a
'soothing' solution.

1. Do you agree with my claim?

More "characteristics of UX"

Ok, so this turned into a three-part diagram, not two, and what I
thought were the "characteristics" in part-two turned into the
"principles" of part-three, but whatever, design is iterative
right? I'd really like to stress-test this again - comments please!
