low cost wireframing/diagramming solution?

I am a front-end developer who only occasionally has need for a
wireframing/diagramming application.
I had been using an online tool called Lovely Charts for a previous project,
and was going to turn to it again for some new work, but found that they
wanted to charge a fee to save more than one project.

I thought if I was going to spend any money that it might be possible to
find a better solution and figured I would turn to the community for help.

If any of you have any recommendations, at an entry-level price-point, I'm
all ears!

Thanks in advance.

Help us help you

I am on the board of directors of UXnet and we're conducting a survey to better understand the ever-growing user experience community and related practitioners. It would be a huge help to us if you could take a bit of time out of your day to take our survey and send along to your teams and colleagues.

Many thanks!

From Technical Writer to Visual Designer...how best to make the transition?

Hi there,

First wanted to say thanks for this wonderful resource. My question
is that I am currently a technical writer interested in moving into a
visual design role. Though I have a stint of experience as a visual
designer, my educational background was not in design. I did look
into graduate programs but find that the HCI programs available seem
quite research based and are rooted more in psychology than applied
visual design, which is where my interest is in.
